FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How does laser tattoo removal work?

The PicoWay® laser delivers ultra-short pulses of energy that target tattoo ink beneath the skin. The ink is broken into tiny particles, which are then naturally eliminated by the body over time. Tattoo ink rests below the skin surface and the PicoWay laser targets the ink below the skin.

How much does later tattoo removal cost?

The cost of laser tattoo removal varies based on the size, color, and complexity of the tattoo. At WNY Tattoo Removal, pricing is discussed during your free consultation so you receive an accurate estimate for your specific tattoo. We believe in transparent pricing with no surprises.

Does laser removal hurt?

Most clients describe the sensation as similar to a rubber band snapping against the skin. Discomfort varies depending on the tattoo location and individual pain tolerance. We use cooling measures to maximize comfort during treatment.

How many treatments will I need?

The number of treatments varies depending on several factors, including tattoo size, ink color, age of the tattoo, depth of ink, location on the body, and individual healing response. Most tattoos require multiple treatments and depend on each individual's goal for fading, cover-up, or complete removal.

How long should I wait between treatments?

Treatments are spaced several weeks apart to allow the body time to clear fragmented ink particles and for the skin to heal. This typically takes between 8-16 weeks. At your appointment, you will be advised on how long to wait in between each treatment.

Can all tattoo colors be removed?

The PicoWay® laser is effective on a wide range of ink colors. Black and dark inks typically respond fastest. Lighter colors such as yellow, light green, and white can be more resistant but may still be treated. During your free consultation, we'll take a close look at your tattoo and give you honest, realistic expectations for your specific ink.

Will laser tattoo removal leave a scar?

When performed properly and with appropriate aftercare, laser tattoo removal has a low risk of scarring. Existing scar tissue within a tattoo may still remain after the ink is removed.

How long does each treatment take?

Many treatments take only a few minutes. Larger tattoos may require additional time.

What should I do before my appointment?

Avoid excessive sun exposure and tanning. Keep the treatment area clean and free from irritation. Additional instructions will be provided during your consultation. We require no tanning on your tattoo site at least 4 weeks prior to your treatment.

What should I do after treatment?

After each session, the treated area may appear red, swollen, or feel similar to a mild sunburn for a day or two; this is normal. You'll receive detailed written aftercare instructions at your appointment, but general guidelines include keeping the area clean and dry, avoiding sun exposure, not picking or scratching the skin, and applying any recommended soothing ointment. Most clients return to normal activity the same day.

Do you offer consultations?

Yes. We offer consultations to evaluate your tattoo, discuss expectations, and develop a personalized treatment plan. You can request your free consultation under the "Free Consultation" tab.

Who performs the treatments?

All treatments are performed by Donna Kates, Registered Nurse and Owner & Operator of WNY Tattoo Removal.
